Participant role
Data destruction and sanitization (service)
Renders data on storage media irrecoverable, sold as a discrete service with its own deliverable and its own certificate: software erasure to a published standard, degaussing, crushing, shredding or disintegration of drives and media, performed at the client's site or at the provider's facility. The commercial unit is the sanitization event, not the disposition of the asset.
How this role is defined
- Qualifying activities
- on-site or mobile media destruction; off-site media destruction as a standalone engagement; software-based erasure delivered as a service with verification reporting; serialised certificates of destruction or erasure.
- Does not qualify alone
- sanitization performed inside a wider disposition contract; licensing erasure software to others; shredding non-data-bearing electronics.
- Boundary vs C01
- the discriminator is whether the client can buy sanitization on its own.
- Boundary vs E12
- E12 licenses the tool; E02 performs the work.
- B2B scope
- business-to-business only. Activity sold to individual consumers or households never supports this role; a company serving both is admitted on its business-facing evidence alone, with the consumer channel recorded as an attribute of the company, never as grounds for a role.
