Participant role

Urban miners / advanced material recovery

Recovers critical, precious and rare-earth materials from e-scrap, printed circuit boards and battery black mass using processes beyond mechanical shred-and-sort: hydrometallurgy, solvent extraction, electrowinning, bioleaching, direct cathode recycling and similar. The defining feature is chemical or biological separation applied to secondary feedstock.

How this role is defined
Qualifying activities
operating or piloting a hydrometallurgical, bioleaching or comparable recovery process; producing intermediate or final critical-material products from e-scrap or black mass; operating a demonstration or commercial plant on that basis.
Does not qualify alone
mechanical shredding and sorting; conventional pyrometallurgical smelting; licensing the technology to others without operating it.
Boundary vs C08
C08 is the traditional furnace and refinery route.
Boundary vs C05
C05 stops at sorted fractions and concentrates.
B2B scope
business-to-business only. Activity sold to individual consumers or households never supports this role; a company serving both is admitted on its business-facing evidence alone, with the consumer channel recorded as an attribute of the company, never as grounds for a role.
