Participant role
Third-party maintenance and spare-parts providers
Keeps hardware that is still in production service running beyond OEM end-of-support, by holding spare-parts inventory, performing break-fix and preventive maintenance, and selling multi-year support contracts independent of the manufacturer. The equipment stays with its owner and stays in use.
How this role is defined
- Qualifying activities
- selling hardware maintenance or support contracts on third-party equipment; stocking spares to meet a service-level commitment; field or depot repair of equipment in service; extending life past OEM end-of-support or end-of-life.
- Does not qualify alone
- refurbishing devices to sell them; selling spare parts without any service commitment; installing new equipment.
- Boundary vs C03
- C03 returns a device to the market; C11 keeps a device in its owner's estate.
- Boundary vs C04
- parts sold from stock without a maintenance offer is C04.
- Boundary vs E15
- E15 installs new estate rather than maintaining an existing one.
- B2B scope
- business-to-business only. Activity sold to individual consumers or households never supports this role; a company serving both is admitted on its business-facing evidence alone, with the consumer channel recorded as an attribute of the company, never as grounds for a role.
